Yoga uses breathing techniques, exercise and meditation

It helps to improve health and happiness. Yoga is the Sanskrit word for union. Patanjali was a pioneer of classical yoga. He defined yoga as "the cessation of the modification of the mind. It brings together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind; it helps manage stress and anxiety and keeps you relaxing. It also helps in increasing flexibility, muscle strength and body tone. It improves respiration, energy and vitality. Yoga asanas build strength, flexibility and confidence. The breath plays an important role in the Asanas. With coordination of breath and movement, the Yoga practice becomes harmonious, the breath deepens of its own accord and the body's circulation and metabolism are stimulated. With regular practice, the Full Yoga Breath becomes the habitual and natural way of breathing Pranayama yoga must be performed in empty stomach. The best time for practice is the early morning, preferably before sunrise when the pollution is at its lowest level, and the body and brain are still free. However, if morning is unsuitable, pranayama may be practiced after sunset, when the air is cool and pleasant. The place suitable for all kinds of Yoga must be clean and calm.

Importance of Pranayama

Surya Namaskar

Surya Namaskar is one of the most important yoga practices. It is the set of 12 yoga poses which can be performed while chanting 12 different mantras. Mantras add a profound spiritual element to the practice.
Surya Namaskar is sometimes translated as "eternal salutations to the sun." In Sanskrit, surya means "sun" and namaskar means "salutations." The practice of Surya Namaskar awakens the body intelligence to create energy directly from the sun. In the Vedic tradition, the sun is symbolic of consciousness and, therefore, has been worshiped daily in the Indian culture.
Surya Namaskar is also referred to as Sun Salutation in English.
