We would like to personally give you a tour to some of the most amazing Hidden Waterfalls of the world and why they must be on the travel list of every person.

Attukad Waterfalls- The Traditional Charisma
You Can Not Miss

Now, we will discuss one of the waterfalls that is not so secret, though you feel that magic every time you come there. Attukad Waterfalls is located between Munnar and Pallivasal and there is a likelihood that you will hear it first before you even see it as you drive along the road.

Attukad is somehow dramatic in the first place. It forms huge waterfalls that flow particularly during the monsoon season and chop through rocky cliffs and thick vegetation. In a downpour it is nearly like movies, fog lifting and water falling, and the entire valley vibrating with its power. You do not merely see this waterfall, you feel it.

Yes, it is more popular than the lesser known hits such as Pullumala or Chilanthiyar. No, and maybe you may get a little crowd on the busiest season. But the charm doesn't fade. The whole location is picturesque with the surrounding hills and tea plantations, as well as, the hanging bridges.

Pullumala Falls - The River Side Retreat.

Pullumala Waterfalls is hidden on Pullumala Road, Chithirapuram which is the type of place that you would barely want to tell anyone about. It isn't loud or dramatic. Rather, it flows softly down sloping stones, with tea plantations and hills. Its loveliness consists in its simplicity.

There is room in Pullumala as opposed to crowd-think. You are able to hear the water, feel the air and see the sunlight playing on the running stream. It is well-placed, and one does not need to walk long distances to reach it, which makes it ideal among families and other leisure travellers. When you are staying close to Chithirapuram this is a distant waterfall which will seem like a secret back yard gem - the one that you bump into and end up in love with.

Chunayamakkal Waterfalls- Niagara of Idukki.

While Pullumala is gentle and docile, Chunayamakkal is aggressive and melodramatic. This waterfall is known as the Niagara of Idukki and situated near Pothupara, some 18 kilometres off Munnar town, it will be easy to comprehend why, after you have taken a glance at it during the monsoon.

The water was created by the mighty Muthirapuzha River, which rushes approximately 100 feet in an expanse of rocky surface. Your face is made cooler by the mist before you reach it. Visiting it is also an adventure - the off-road road is not in good condition, and most of the tourists prefer visiting it on a 4WD jeep safari. It is rough and unpolished with thick spice gardens and forest cover.

Here is even the zipline, and one of the longest winds over the falls, in Kerala. Do not forget, however, that the rocks are very slippery, in times of heavy rains. Plan your visit during the month of June to December and ensure that you see it in its finest state and safety is always first.

Viripara Waterfalls - A place where one can swim under the waterfalls.

Going on Munnar-Mankulam road, and past Lakshmi Tea Estate which is a beautiful sight, you will arrive at Viripara Waterfalls or Kainagiri Waterfalls as it is commonly called. This cascade, which is placed in the river Kallar, this multi-tiered one is not exceptionally high, and very beautifully it falls across dark rocks, forming the natural pools on the bottom.

What is special about Viripara is that you could really get into the water. This is unlike most of the waterfalls where people are required to look, but not to touch as it is possible to take a safe bath on special spots. The pools are not deep but clear and caretakers commonly direct the visitors to safer areas.

The adventure is also in the traveling as the last part of the trip can be a rough road that is best covered by a jeep. The contrast between the white water and the dark rock and greenery is something which helps to shape it as a photographer paradise. This is the one when you want to have a waterfall experience, but you do not merely watch it: you feel it.

Erachipara Waterfalls - The Monsoon Giant.

Erachipara waterfalls about 40 kilometres on the road Marayoor to Kanthalloor is one of the highest and most impressive in the area. In monsoon (June to September) period, the water falls almost 300 metres down the hills known as Chinnanamudi, which forms a veil of mist, which makes one feel like they are standing in natural rain.

This is a seasonal waterfall and that is what makes this one interesting. During the summer months it might be reduced to a mere trickle, and this makes it even more miraculous to see it in full blast. In the case of moderate flow, the visitors will occasionally be able to walk behind the falling sheet of water or rest on the big rocks at the bottom.

Combine your visit with a tour of the sandalwood forest of Marayoor or other natural features in that area to make your visit of the high altitude complete. Nevertheless, before travelling, particularly when it is not during the monsoon season, be sure to ask locals.

Chilanthiyar Waterfalls -The Secret Trekker Delight.

In case you are adventurous in your waterfall, Chilanthiyar, located in the Kanthalloor area will capture your heart. It is accessible by a 12 km -1 km walk over lemongrass fields and thick shola woods. The journey is as memorable as the destination because of the aroma of wild lemon in the air.

Contrary to the vertical drops that rise high, Chilanthiyar flows on many levels creating natural pools on various levels. The sweet season to visit is post-monsoon (September to January) the water is clear, the greenery is luminous and the flow of the water is strong but not dangerous. A lot of travellers also swim in the pools and it is never out of order to take a glance at the depths first.

It is not crowded out much and thus it has a secretive touch. And, by the way, you can make a detachment to local farms and sample fresh hill fruits such as passion fruit and plums during your trip home.

Karimutti Waterfalls - The Drive by Today Gem.

There are occasions when the most beautiful things do not need trekking shoes or even off-roading. About 5 km away on a road leading to Munnar, Karimutti Waterfalls are a place that catches unawares by its ease.

The stream of the water is smooth as it cascades down the heights of the Western Ghats, creating a crystal clear stream on the dark rocks. Numerous road travellers use this place when they are on a road trip to have their feet dipped into the cool water, which is an instant refresher to them after days of driving. It is not huge or dramatic, it is more intimate and tranquil.

It is also easy to access, hence it is good with families and those individuals who do not wish to strain in getting to the waterfall. It is only a matter of care--the rocks with moss on them may be slippery, particularly in the rainy season.
